Sliding Down The Land

For my cool writing presentation in College Lit I chose to do it on the song Landslide by the Dixie Chicks. I chose this song because my mother and I always listen to it in the car and sing along with every word.

The deeper meaning behind this song to me is one of a journey of change. I believe its about a woman climbing her way up in society (a mountain) and having a great situation to be in. Then something terrible (a landslide) brought them down to reality and is having them remember what it feels like not to be on top.

They become so accustomed to their life style they don't know how they can change to become anything different. At the end of the song it seems that she is giving someone advice not to make the same mistake.

This is why I picked the song Landslide by Dixie Chicks

Not just the Ugly American

In College Lit we had to do a journal on when we were aware of somthing that made us different or somewhat uniqe.

I chose the time when I was in Norway. I had a few difficulties with the language. Somewhat unfortunate that I looked similar to the Norweigan sterotype. I had light hair, fair skin, and blue eyes. This made all the locals think I was a Norsk, their slang for Norweigan.

Once people started to talk to me they soon realized there was one thing missing, I had no idea what they were saying to me. I only knew how to say a few things in Norweigan: I only speak a little Norweigan, My hovercraft is full of eels, Ja, and a few others.

This was a dead give away for me being an American. Since I tried to speak their language me and my family were not considered the "Ugly American Tourists".
